I Know About HEPA Air Cleaners, But What Are They?
HEPA air cleaners were developed during the second world war to combat the release of radioactive particles from nuclear facility exhausts.
HEPA stands for high energy particulate air filtration and they are still used in nuclear facilities. So what do they have to do with home air cleaning?
Basically HEPA air cleaners are still used to trap airborne particles such as pollen, dust mite allergens and tobacco smoke. There may not be too many airborne radioactive particles from nuclear facilities in your home (hopefully) but there are certainly other airborne particles. HEPA air purifiers clean these from the air. Efficiency for a good filter should be over 99% of particles removed. Ideal for allergy and asthma sufferers.
It's worth knowing that if air particulates are a problem for you then it may also be worth considering a HEPA vacuum. As the particles fall on the floor they can then be removed from the floor.
Beware
You can also find HEPA "type" or HEPA "like" filters. HEPA filters must be certified by the Department of Energy as passing certain tests and requirements. These "type" and "like" filters may well not pass these tests.
And one other thing to be aware of. When buying a HEPA air cleaner always check the cost of replacement filters. Sometimes the filter replacement cost can be a shock for some, so find out about this before you buy.
And where would we go to buy air purifiers? Nowhere else but Allergy Be Gone An excellent resource and well worth a look, or to buy.
